Which view is this ? There are 2 pathologies here. What is shown in this echo?
Answer
This is the parasternal short axis view. There is a moderately sized pericardial effusion here. The Right Ventricle is significantly dilated. There is septal flattening of the interventricular septum. This gives the LV a D shaped cavity. These appearances are consistent with any cause of elevated pulmonary or right sided pressures. This could occur in acute massive fluid overload, right ventricular failure, pulmonary hypertension and acute or chronic pulmonary thromboembolism.
